  • Lamine Yamal came off injured after scoring a penalty for FC Barcelona against Celta Vigo.
  • Mundo Deportivo and AS point to a hamstring injury.
  • On COPE, Helena Condis says that 18-year-old has torn his hamstring.

FC Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has torn his hamstring according to COPE’s Helena Condis. Over at Mundo Deportivo, they point to an absence of five weeks meaning he will miss the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old immediately called for help after winning and then scoring a penalty for the Catalans in a La Liga clash against Celta Vigo on Wednesday night.

After taking to the Camp Nou turf, Lamine managed to get back on his feet but hobbled off down the tunnel.

A fan falling ill halted play by some 20 minutes, and Lamine was eventually replaced by Roony Bardghji. At half time, though, AS and Mundo Deportivo reported on a hamstring injury.

Lamine Yamal could miss El Clasico for Barcelona

Shortly after, Condis relayed that Lamine has torn his hamstring in his left leg, with further tests to follow.

What’s important to note is that for now we only know Lamine has injured his hamstring despite numerous outlets confirming it to be a tear after the first scans.

More tests will be done tomorrow, so we won’t be clearer on his absence duration until then nor are we aware of its severity up to press.

If Mundo Deportivo’s forecast is accurate, however, this is of course terrible news for Barca, who on May 10 will face Real Madrid in El Clasico at the same ground.

Currently nine points clear at the time of publishing, the Catalans can wrap up a third La Liga title in four years by beating their arch rival.

Spain collectively winces and awaits news from the club, and not just Culers, however. There are just 50 days until the World Cup, where European champions La Roja are among the favourites to take Lionel Messi and Argentina’s Qatar 2022 crown.

At the time of publishing, FC Barcelona were leading Celta Vigo by a 1-0 advantage.

There was bad news earlier on the evening too, however, as left back Joao Cancelo also had to leave the action with an injury.
