Barcelona have made it official. Hours after the Spanish transfer window slammed shut, the club published the full list of squad numbers for the 2026/27 season — and the headline is the one everybody expected: deadline-day signing Gabriel Jesus inherits the No.9 shirt that Robert Lewandowski wore for four seasons.
It is the biggest reshuffle of the Hansi Flick era. Five senior arrivals, a long list of exits and two La Masia promotions have left barely a defensive or attacking number untouched.
Barcelona squad numbers 2026/27 in full
As announced by the club on Wednesday evening and carried by Mundo Deportivo, the first-team list reads:
Goalkeepers: 1 Joan García · 13 Wojciech Szczésny · 25 Dominik Livaković
Defenders: 2 João Cancelo · 3 Alejandro Balde · 5 Pau Cubarsí · 12 Xavi Espart · 15 Andreas Christensen · 18 Gerard Martín · 23 Jules Koundé · 24 Eric García
Midfielders: 4 Brian Fariñas · 6 Gavi · 7 Fermín López · 8 Pedri · 16 Rodri · 20 Dani Olmo · 21 Frenkie de Jong · 22 Marc Bernal
Forwards: 9 Gabriel Jesus · 10 Lamine Yamal · 11 Raphinha · 14 Karim Adeyemi · 17 Anthony Gordon · 19 Roony Bardghji
Barça Atlètic players with first-team numbers: 27 Jesse Bisiwu · 29 Hamza Abdelkarim
The No.9 question, answered
Handing Gabriel Jesus the nine is a statement rather than an administrative tidy-up. The shirt sat vacant through pre-season and the opening three league games while Barcelona chased Julián Álvarez and while captain Raphinha filled in as a makeshift centre-forward. The Brazilian, signed from Arsenal on deadline day until 2029, now carries it.
He is not the only new arrival taking on a number with history attached. Karim Adeyemi takes the 14 vacated by Marcus Rashford, while Anthony Gordon steps into the 17 that Marc Casadó left behind when he joined Deportivo on loan. Rodri, as expected, has his preferred 16 — a switch we flagged back in August — and Dominik Livaković slots in at 25.
Ter Stegen’s exit triggers the goalkeeping shuffle
Marc-André ter Stegen’s loan move to Ajax freed up the No.1, and it has gone to Joan García, who wore 13 last season and is now unambiguously Flick’s first choice. Szczésny drops from 25 to 13, and Livaković takes the number the Pole has given up.
Ferran Torres’ €48.5m sale to Paris Saint-Germain opened up the seven, and Fermín López has moved across from 16 to claim it — a promotion in symbolism as much as squad admin for a player who ended last season as one of Flick’s most trusted attacking midfielders.
Two La Masia promotions, and one shirt that stings
The most emotive change is at the back. Brian Fariñas, formally registered as a first-team player after resisting a loan move, has taken the No.4 last worn by Ronald Araújo, who left on loan for Liverpool. Xavi Espart, promoted alongside him, has the No.12.
Jesse Bisiwu (27) and Hamza Abdelkarim (29) also have first-team numbers, though both are expected to split their season between Flick’s squad and Juliano Belletti’s Barça Atlètic. Abdelkarim made his senior debut in the win over Rayo Vallecano.
One name on the list is a formality rather than a plan. Roony Bardghji keeps the 19, but as Barça Universal notes, the Swede is not currently registered in La Liga after the club removed him from the list following his ACL rupture. Frenkie de Jong, also long-term injured, retains the 21.
The rest hold firm: Cubarsí at 5, Gavi at 6, Pedri at 8, Lamine Yamal at 10 and Raphinha, the captain, at 11. Flick’s side, unbeaten and top after three matchdays, travel to Valencia on Sunday — the first chance to see the new numbers on the pitch.
