  • Internal Split: Deco and Hansi Flick have differing views on Marcus Rashford’s FC Barcelona future.
  • Deco’s Stance: Prefers investing €60m in a new winger rather than keeping Rashford on high wages.
  • Flick’s View: Open to keeping Rashford for squad depth.

Barcelona’s stance on Marcus Rashford is becoming increasingly clear. Internally, there’s a notable difference in opinion between the club’s sporting leadership and coaching staff.

According to SER’s Santi Ovalle, sporting director Deco is not in favour of keeping Rashford. Not even under favorable conditions.

Instead, he’d prefer Barca to invest around €60 million in signing a new winger rather than retain the English forward while paying his full salary.

Deco Prioritises Value Over Convenience for Barcelona

From Deco’s perspective, the decision is rooted in long-term squad planning and financial efficiency. Despite Rashford potentially being available without a transfer fee, his salary is viewed as too high relative to his current level and overall impact.

The club would still need to commit significant wages. When combined with Manchester United’s demands, the total cost of the operation is not seen as justified.

As a result, Deco believes it is more logical to allocate those resources towards a new signing. He wants a winger who fits the club’s long-term vision, offering better value both financially and sporting-wise.

Flick Open to Keeping Rashford

In contrast, Hansi Flick is understood to have a more flexible stance. The German coach values squad depth and would be open to keeping Rashford as part of the rotation.

If asked directly, Flick would reportedly accept Rashford staying without hesitation, recognising the player’s ability to provide options across the frontline and contribute in different attacking roles.

However, this perspective is more focused on short-term squad needs rather than the broader strategic planning led by Deco.

Barcelona Decision Leans Towards Departure

Ultimately, the direction of the club appears to align more closely with Deco’s vision. Barcelona are prioritising efficiency and long-term planning in the transfer market, even if it means moving on from a player who could still offer depth.

The situation reflects a wider strategy – investing in profiles that justify both their transfer fee and salary, rather than committing to high wages for players who are not seen as core to the project.

A Strategic Call

Rashford’s future now depends on whether Barcelona reconsider their stance or proceed with targeting alternative wingers in the market.

For now, the message is clear: while Flick may be open to keeping him, Deco is driving the decision. From his point of view, the numbers simply do not add up.
