Laporta New Barcelona Board Turns Madrid Swipe Into 2031 Test

Joan Laporta’s new FC Barcelona mandate is now more than an election result. It has a named board, a 2031 runway and, already, a pointed institutional message.

Barcelona confirmed that Laporta is again president and that the new Board of Directors contains 22 members. Rafa Yuste continues as first vice-president, with Elena Fort, Antonio Escudero, Ferran Olive and Joan Soler i Ferre also listed among the vice-presidents.

Why the timing matters

The board reveal lands with Laporta already shifting into a combative public tone. Managing Madrid reported that he appeared to aim a swipe at Real Madrid during the event, referring to “ridiculous press conferences” while framing Barcelona as a club with clearer direction.

That matters because Barcelona’s next phase is not only about signings. Hansi Flick and Deco need clean decision-making above them while the club manages Camp Nou revenue, fair-play limits and a tense summer market. Laporta’s March election win was sold as momentum; this board turns it into operating structure.

For supporters, the line is familiar. In March, Barcelona’s own coverage of Laporta’s victory carried the language of an unstoppable new mandate. Now the presidency has its executive machinery. The football department has fewer excuses.
