The Countdown Begins to Raphinha’s Highly Anticipated Barcelona Return

The decisive stretch of the 2025-26 season is here, and FC Barcelona has received the best possible news. After a month on the sidelines due to an injury sustained with the Brazilian national team against France, Raphinha is entering the final stages of his recovery.

His return is more than just a name on the team sheet; it is the restoration of Hansi Flick’s tactical engine at a time when the league title is beginning to look increasingly Blaugrana.

Physical Status: When exactly will he return?

According to the latest reports from Mundo Deportivo, the Brazilian is already counting down the days to rejoin the group. After injuring his biceps femoris in late March during an international friendly, the projected five-week recovery period is nearly complete.

  • The Target: The medical team and coaching staff are eyeing the match against Osasuna at El Sadar this coming Saturday.
  • The Roadmap: No unnecessary risks will be taken. The plan is for him to see progressive minutes to ensure he is at 100% for the clash that could mathematically clinch the championship.

What have Barcelona missed without Raphinha?

While Barca have held their ground during his absence, the team has undoubtedly lost a gear. Under Flick’s guidance, Raphinha has transformed into a “total footballer,” and his absence has highlighted two key deficiencies:

  1. Suffocating Pressure: Raphinha is the first line of defense. His ability to lead the press immediately after losing possession is unmatched in the current squad. Without him, the high block has been less effective, allowing opponents to transition more cleanly.
  2. Attacking Space: While Lamine Yamal provides flair and magic on the ball, Raphinha is the one who breaks into space. He stretches rival defences and creates gaps for Robert Lewandowski and late-arriving midfielders (like Fermín or Dani Olmo) to exploit the box.

A return to “Seal the Deal”

With Real Madrid still lurking but Barca holding an 11-point lead they must manage, having the Brazilian back allows Flick to revert to his most aggressive and vertical tactical setup.

Furthermore, his return serves as an emotional boost. In a season dominated by debates over the FIFA calendar and international break injuries (the infamous “FIFA virus”), seeing Raphinha recover ahead of schedule reinforces the morale of a locker room that can already feel the trophy in their hands.

Born and raised just 20 kilometres from the city, Pol Ferré is a Journalism graduate from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and is currently working in production on the daily 'La Ciutat' program broadcasted by one of Spain's biggest radio stations, Onda Cero. He grew up deeply connected to football and, especially, to FC Barcelona. From a very young age, he developed a strong sense of belonging to the Blaugrana club, becoming what is popularly known as a 'Culer'. To Pol, Barça is not just a football team, but also an important part of his cultural and emotional identity as a Catalan. His childhood was marked by watching matches, celebrating titles, and sharing a passion with friends and family for colours that represent much more than sport: history, values, and a way of understanding the city. He is regularly found at home matches in the Spotify Camp Nou, or on a members-only coach heading to away fixtures.
