Who is Mika Godts? The Ajax Gem Followed by Deco for Barcelona in 2026

FC Barcelona continue to keep a close eye on the Eredivisie market, a historical source of talent for the Camp Nou. The latest name underlined in Deco’s notebook is Mika Godts, the Belgian winger at Ajax who is currently breaking the mould in the Netherlands. But how real is this interest, and what would the youngster from Leuven bring to Hansi Flick’s tactical scheme?

A Profile with “Barça DNA” Molded in Amsterdam

Mika Godts (20 years old) is not your conventional winger. Developed in the academies of Anderlecht and Genk before landing at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Godts embodies the modern attacker: a creative dribbler, a team player, and a reader of space whose intelligence belies his age.

Stats for the 2025/26 Season

As of today, Godts has transitioned from a prospect to a statistical reality. His numbers under Óscar García at Ajax justify the interest from Europe’s giants:

  • Goals and Assists: He has tallied 16 goals and 11 assists in the current Eredivisie season.
  • Dribbling Ability: He averages over four successful dribbles per match, placing him in the 91st percentile among attackers in European leagues.
  • Versatility: While his natural habitat is the left wing (playing as an inverted winger), his ability to act as a false 9 or an attacking midfielder makes him a perfect fit for the fluid mobility required by Flick’s Barça.

Why are Barcelona Looking at Him Now?

The sporting department is seeking profiles that can provide depth and competition on the wings. With Lamine Yamal consolidated on the right, the left flank needs high-quality reinforcements to rotate with or complement Raphinha.

  • The Barça-Ajax Relationship: The historical fluidity between both clubs facilitates negotiations, though the Belgian’s market value is already climbing toward €40–45 million.
  • The “Hazard Factor”: In Belgium, he is already being compared to Eden Hazard due to his low center of gravity and his knack for escaping pressure in tight spaces. For Barça, having a player who can break defensive lines is vital against the low blocks often found in La Liga.
  • Contract and Competition: With a contract running until 2029, Ajax are under no pressure to sell. Arsenal, Napoli, and Roma have also inquired about him, forcing Barça to move quickly to avoid a bidding war that could skyrocket his price.

Where Would He Fit?

In Hansi Flick’s 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3, Godts would provide essential depth. Unlike other wingers who constantly drift toward the center, Mika has the virtue of reaching the touchline or cutting inside to shoot, as demonstrated by his recent stunning goal against NAC Breda.

His passing accuracy (nearly 80%) ensures he isn’t just a runner, but a playmaker who could connect seamlessly with Pedri or Lamine Yamal in the final third.

An Investment in the Future

Signing Mika Godts would align with the club’s policy of capturing young talent before their definitive explosion into the absolute elite. While the club’s financial situation remains under scrutiny, operations for difference-makers at age 20 tend to be the most profitable in the long term.

Born and raised just 20 kilometres from the city, Pol Ferré is a Journalism graduate from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and is currently working in production on the daily 'La Ciutat' program broadcasted by one of Spain's biggest radio stations, Onda Cero. He grew up deeply connected to football and, especially, to FC Barcelona. From a very young age, he developed a strong sense of belonging to the Blaugrana club, becoming what is popularly known as a 'Culer'. To Pol, Barça is not just a football team, but also an important part of his cultural and emotional identity as a Catalan. His childhood was marked by watching matches, celebrating titles, and sharing a passion with friends and family for colours that represent much more than sport: history, values, and a way of understanding the city. He is regularly found at home matches in the Spotify Camp Nou, or on a members-only coach heading to away fixtures.
