Ansu Fati’s father, Bori, has revealed that the FC Barcelona-owned forward’s family wants him to stay at Monaco where he’s “happy”.
Asked about next season while speaking to Winwin, Bori Fati said: “We still don’t know what’s going to happen with his future, because he has a contract until 2028, that’s for sure.
“We don’t know. But we want him to stay at Monaco because he’s happy there,” Bori Fati added.
Scoring 10 goals and providing an assists across 27 Ligue 1 games, Ansu has received the playing time that had been lacking in 2024/2025 at Barca under Hansi Flick.
In that treble-winning campaign, Ansu managed just 11 appearances and accumulated 298 minutes without a goal or assist.
He impressed Flick in preseason training. But once again an injury derailed any progress. Ansu found it hard to earn opportunities, or take advantage of the few that were offered.
“It depends on Flick, but they haven’t spoken yet,” Bori Fati said about his son’s possible return to Catalonia.
There could still be space for Ansu at Barcelona
The Lamine Yamal of his era who smashed a number of records as a prodigious 16-year-old in 2019, Ansu was also given Lionel Messi’s number 10 shirt when signing a lengthy contract in 2021.
A mix of serious knocks, such as an ACL rupture, and niggles meant he couldn’t kick on, however. Yet as Ansu’s still young at 23, there’s no reason why he can’t impress Flick in a preseason camp at a time the Blaugrana are looking for another left winger to provide back up for Raphinha.
Fati’s camp still haven’t given up hope of the World Cup either. “We hope so,” Bori Fati said about possibly going to the tournament this summer.
“As for the numbers, if he continues in these three games that he has left with Monaco and plays them all, that’s what we expect. And when he is called up again with the Spanish national team, he will give his best. Because in terms of numbers, as a striker, he has a greater number of goals. But in the end, we have to wait,” Ansu’s father concluded.
