Barcelona Confirm Birmingham City Friendly To Open 2026/27 Pre-Season

Barcelona have confirmed that Hansi Flick’s side will open their 2026/27 pre-season campaign against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Friday 31 July.

The fixture gives Barcelona their first confirmed summer test after the club mapped out a return to work in July, with Flick’s squad due to build towards the new campaign through an England-based pre-season stage.

Barcelona said the game will be played at Birmingham’s historic home, a ground opened in 1906 with a listed capacity of 29,409, according to the club’s official announcement.

Barcelona’s England Plan Now Has Its First Proper Test

The match matters because it gives Flick a fixed point around which to shape the first phase of Barcelona’s summer. With the first-team group scheduled to resume on 13 July for medical checks and physical work, the Birmingham friendly should be one of the earliest windows for supporters to assess fitness, academy involvement and any reshaped tactical details.

For Birmingham City, it is also a high-profile home friendly against one of Europe’s biggest clubs, adding extra attention to a pre-season date that should draw significant interest in England and Catalonia.

Barcelona’s wider summer programme is still taking shape, but the Birmingham fixture now gives Flick’s squad a clear opening assignment before the competitive calendar begins to close in.
