FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick confirmed that Lamine Yamal will be available for Spain’s 2026 World Cup campaign and tipped the youngster to “come back stronger” from his hamstring injury at a prematch press conference on Friday afternoon.
With the number 10 ruled out for the rest of the season after injuring himself in a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo, Lamine’s predicament was naturally the first topic raised by journalists after Flick apologised for being a few minutes late.
“The situation isn’t easy for us or for him. He’ll have to manage it and learn. Now he’s very focused, he knows it’s his first muscle injury. This season he isn’t available for us, but he’ll be at the World Cup. He’ll come back stronger,” Flick stated, in words that echoed Lamine’s on social media.
Flick shed light on an understanding regarding Lamine Yamal’s injury
Until now, it was widely thought Lamine injured himself when converting the winning penalty against Celta Vigo. This is because he signalled for help, immediately after firing home and putting Barca nine points clear. According to Flick, though, that wasn’t the case.
“He noticed something after the foul, but he thought it was nothing serious and decided to take responsibility for the penalty. Maybe it did get worse, but you have to have the feeling.
“He’s never had a muscle injury. He’s very young, and he must learn to read his body. It’s another experience for him, and that is what he must learn. You need to take into account the signals of the body. In the end he scored and we took the three points,” Flick concluded.
For the trip to Getafe, Roony Bardghji is likely to get a rare start on the left wing in replacing Lamine.
