At a glance

  • Raphinha and Marc Bernal are aiming for El Clasico against FC Barcelona on May 10.
  • They could also be in Hansi Flick’s squad for Osasuna on Saturday.
  • While Raphinha was ruled out with a hamstring injury, Bernal sprained his ankle against Atletico Madrid.

FC Barcelona duo Raphinha and Marc Bernal are in the final stages of their recovery while aiming to be fit for El Clasico on May 10 against Real Madrid.

Raphinha injured his hamstring playing for Brazil against France in late March. As a consequence, he missed both legs of the Champions League quarterfinal defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Bernal didn’t feature in that 4-3 aggregate either. Spraining his ankle against Atleti in a 2-1 league win, he was expected to be out for 10 days which has ended up being more than three weeks. In total, the scorer of five goals in all competitions has missed five matches across them.

Raphinha’s absence timeframe was put at five weeks. Regardless, both men are following a recovery process and racing against the clock to be fit for El Clasico as explained by SPORT.

Raphinha and Bernal want to play in Barcelona Vs. Real Madrid

The world’s biggest derby takes place on May 10. But at this point, making Hansi Flick’s squad for Osasuna away also can’t be ruled out.

Their teammates have two days off as a reward for being Getafe at the Coliseum for the first time in nearly seven years on Saturda. Yet Raphinha and Bernal continue to work.

The teenager wants to finish a breakout season strongly. On the other hand, Raphinha would like to use as many of the five remaining games as a warm up for the World Cup.

Barca are 11 points clear. So it seems a case of when not if they’ll wrap up a third La Liga crown in four seasons.

In their places at Osasuna, though, it’s probably going to be Fermin Lopez on the left wing and either Gavi or Frenkie de Jong partnering Pedri in midfield. What happens in the Clasico, though, is anyone’s guess.
