Barcelona Player Sales: The €100m SPORT Say Barca Are Chasing From Casado, Balde and Fort

Barcelona player sales are about to decide how this transfer window ends, and they matter now more than any name on Deco’s incoming list. According to Diario SPORT, via Barca Universal, the club are hoping to generate close to €100 million in the coming week from three players SPORT describe as outside Hansi Flick’s immediate plans: Marc Casado, Alejandro Balde and Hector Fort. None of the three travelled to Elche. All three have a market. And with Barca operating under LaLiga’s 1:1 Fair Play rule this summer, the money that goes out of the Spotify Camp Nou is the money that comes back in.

What you will find below:

  • How SPORT’s €100m figure breaks down across the three deals
  • Why Casado’s €40m valuation runs into a problem he created himself
  • The gap between what Barca want for Balde and what anyone has actually offered
  • Dortmund, Real Sociedad and the buy-back argument over Hector Fort
  • What the cash is earmarked for — and why the centre-back file depends on it

The three names SPORT say are outside Flick’s plans

Sunday morning’s squad list did the talking. Flick named 23 for the LaLiga opener at the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero and left out Casado, Fort and — the headline omission — Balde, with Mundo Deportivo’s Sergi Sole reporting Balde’s omission as a technical decision by the coach, not something the player asked for. We covered the full list in our Barcelona squad for Elche breakdown, and the pattern in it is hard to miss: six academy players were rewarded for pre-season, and three senior full-backs and midfielders on the departure ramp were not.

Flick was asked about that group at his pre-match press conference on Saturday and gave the sort of answer managers give when the sporting department is still working. “It’s a club situation, we’re making a lot of changes. We have to wait until the end of the market,” he said, in remarks carried by Mundo Deportivo. “For now, this is our situation. We were clear with these players and now we have to wait until the end.” Nobody has been told they must go. Nobody has been told they will stay either.

The €100m breakdown, deal by deal

Marc Casado — €40m, and a destination problem

Casado is the most valuable of the three on paper. SPORT put Barca’s asking price at around €40 million for a 22-year-old midfielder under contract until 2028, and report that clubs in Saudi Arabia are prepared to reach that number. The complication is that Casado would prefer to stay in European football, and Barca themselves are reported to accept they will not get from a European buyer the sort of money a Saudi move would have paid. We looked at the shape of his market in our piece on Casado’s suitors as Barca wait, and the arithmetic has not changed since.

His standing at the club has, though. Casado lost the No. 17 shirt to Anthony Gordon, no longer trains with the first team and was left out again on Sunday. SPORT’s read is that Barca are in no rush to accept a low offer, which is the correct posture for a club with a contract in hand and the wrong one for a club that needs the cash by the deadline. Both things are true at once.

Alejandro Balde — €40m asked, half that on the table

Balde is the surprise on the list, and the one where the gap between valuation and bid is widest. SPORT value him at around €40 million, and report that Benfica have gone to roughly €20 million — though Record, via Barca Universal, have since said the Portuguese club will not go beyond that figure and have pulled out. Manchester United are described as monitoring, with Aston Villa the live suitor; neither has lodged a bid. SPORT have elsewhere put the ask at €40-45m and Everything Barca at around €50m.

It is worth being precise about where Balde himself stands, because the reporting has been contradictory. Mundo Deportivo’s sources close to the player have him reading Flick’s public challenge as exactly that, a challenge, and actively distancing himself from accounts treating his exit as settled — while accepting he will not object if the club tell him he is not in the plans. That is not the same thing as a player pushing for the door, and we set out both versions in our analysis of the two Balde stories. He is 22, a Spain international and contracted until 2028. At the numbers reported so far, Barca would be selling a starter’s asset at a squad player’s price.

Hector Fort — €20m, Dortmund, and a late Basque push

Fort is the smallest number and the closest to done. SPORT value the 20-year-old at around €20 million, with Borussia Dortmund the most advanced club in negotiations. Mundo Deportivo’s Sergi Sole reports that the German club have sent emissaries to Barcelona and that Fort agreed the move days ago — reported, not confirmed. The sticking point is structure rather than principle, as we explained in our look at the Hector Fort transfer fee and the buy-back clause.

Then MARCA moved it again on Sunday. Reported via Barca Universal, Real Sociedad have not given up and are close to making an initial offer that would satisfy Barca, who are said to want in the region of €15 million plus a buy-back option. The catch for the Basque club is that Fort wants the Bundesliga. Sociedad may match or beat Dortmund’s money and still lose, because the player has already chosen. MARCA’s €15m and SPORT’s €20m sit at either end of the €15-20m band Mundo Deportivo report Barca are working to.

Why Barcelona player sales might not reach €100m

Add SPORT’s three valuations together and you get a round, quotable €100 million. Subtract the bids that actually exist and the picture thins considerably.

  • Casado: the €40m is available in Saudi Arabia, and the player has consistently signalled he wants to stay in Europe. Barca cannot bank money the player will not travel for.
  • Balde: the only number the market has put on him is a contested €20m from Benfica — half the ask, and a club Record now say have pulled out. Aston Villa have been described as needing to sell before they buy; United’s interest has been characterised as monitoring, with no concrete approach.
  • Fort: the fee is contested between roughly €15m and €20m before you get to sell-on percentages and a buy-back, and structures like that trade headline cash for future control.

None of this is club-confirmed. Every figure here belongs to a reporting outlet, not to a Barca statement, and the three deals are at three very different stages. Barca Universal note that just over a week of the window remains — enough time for one of these to complete on Barca’s terms, not obviously enough for all three.

What the money is actually for

Deco has said publicly, after the Joan Gamper Trophy win over Al Ahly, that there will be a move at centre-forward before the deadline. That remains the priority, and it has not gone smoothly: Atletico Madrid have closed the door on Julian Alvarez in increasingly emphatic public terms, and Inter’s president Giuseppe Marotta dismissed the Lautaro Martinez link as “not even worth talking about”. The striker budget is still, as far as anyone outside the building knows, unspent.

Behind it sits the defence. Mundo Deportivo’s Roger Torello has been explicit that a new centre-back depends on a Balde or Jules Kounde exit — the cash comes first, the signing second. Castello Lukeba is understood to be Flick’s preferred profile at a likely €50m-plus outlay, and Barca have only one recognised left-footed central defender in Gerard Martin since Ronald Araujo left for Liverpool on loan. That is the chain: sell Balde, buy the centre-back. Sell nobody, and Flick starts the season with the squad he has.

The bottom line

The €100m headline is a target, not a bank balance. What SPORT have actually reported is that Barca believe three players are worth that much and would like the market to agree by the deadline. On today’s evidence the only number the market has put on any of the three is a contested €20m for Balde, from a club another outlet says has already walked away. Culers should judge this window by what clears rather than what is quoted — and by whether the money out finally turns into the No. 9 Deco promised. Keep it here for the deals as they close.
