Champions League Table: Barcelona Second as Ferran Torres Fires PSG Above Them

The Champions League table has taken its first shape of the 2026/27 season, and Barcelona are sitting second in it — beaten to top spot by a single goal, and by a striker who walked out of the Spotify Camp Nou this summer.

Hansi Flick’s side did everything that was asked of them on Wednesday night, brushing Feyenoord aside 5-1 in front of their own supporters on the opening night of the league phase. Raphinha scored twice, Lamine Yamal curled in a free-kick on his first night wearing the armband, Karim Adeyemi produced a screamer and Gabriel Jesus headed in his first goal for the club. As European openers go, the Blaugrana could hardly have asked for more. It still was not quite enough for first place.

Champions League table: how it looks after matchday one

Paris Saint-Germain put six past Slovan Bratislava at the Parc des Princes on the same night, and that one extra goal is the whole difference. Twelve clubs won across Tuesday and Wednesday, all of them on three points, so the standings are sorted on goal difference — and PSG’s +5 edges them above Barcelona’s +4.

Pos Team GF GA Pts
1 Paris Saint-Germain 6 1 3
2 Barcelona 5 1 3
3 Sporting CP 3 1 3
4 Stuttgart 3 1 3
5 Manchester City 2 0 3
6 Aston Villa 3 2 3
7 Real Betis 3 2 3
8 Borussia Dortmund 3 2 3

Liverpool and Real Madrid are ninth and tenth on the same three points, with Arsenal eleventh, while Atletico Madrid, Inter, Villarreal and Feyenoord are among the sides who opened with a defeat. Bayern Munich, Manchester United and the rest of Thursday’s fixtures are still to be played, so the order will move again before the round is complete.

Ferran Torres and Ousmane Dembele do the damage in Paris

The detail that will not sit especially well in Catalonia is who supplied the goals that pushed PSG above Barca. Ferran Torres, sold to the French champions for a reported €48.5m in the summer, scored a hat-trick against Slovan Bratislava. Ousmane Dembele, another former Barcelona forward, added two more, with Fabian Ruiz completing the 6-1.

Two ex-Blaugrana attackers combining for five goals in a single night is the sort of statistic that follows a club around, and it landed within hours of Barcelona’s own five-goal evening. Luis Enrique, the man in the PSG dugout, knows the Camp Nou dressing room better than most as well.

Barcelona’s numbers justify the position

Second place is no accident. Flick’s team have now scored 22 goals in five matches in all competitions and have won every one of them. Raphinha, redeployed as the central striker after the summer departures up front, has eight goals in those five games and was again the outstanding player against Feyenoord — our Barcelona player ratings from the 5-1 win had him and Lamine Yamal level at the top.

The new forwards are contributing too. Adeyemi has a goal that will be replayed all season, Gabriel Jesus scored on his first European appearance in a Barca shirt, and Anthony Gordon already has four assists despite still waiting to open his own account. For a squad that had to rebuild its entire front line over the summer, that is a return worth having.

Galatasaray away is next

Barcelona do not return to the competition until 13 October, when they travel to Istanbul to face Galatasaray — a fixture that will say far more about this side than a comfortable home win did. PSG, meanwhile, go to Manchester City a day later, which may yet be where the top of the table is settled.

For now, the Blaugrana are second in Europe with a maximum return and a goal difference most clubs would take. The full report on Barcelona 5-1 Feyenoord has the rest of the night, and the standings above are as published by Mundo Deportivo.
