  • FC Barcelona face Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday May 10 at the Spotify Camp Nou.
  • Currently 11 points clear, the Catalans can clinch the La Liga title with a win or draw.
  • Despite this lead and Madrid’s internal conflicts, Gavi wants his teammates as “200%” in the clash.

FC Barcelona midfielder Gavi believes he and his teammates have to be at “200%” to beat Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday.

Los Blancos are dealing with an internal crisis amid reports of fights between teammates such as Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde. Trailing the Catalans by 11 points, a win or a draw is enough to see the home team at the Spotify Camp Nou seal a third title in four years.

Raised in La Masia, however, Gavi knows what it takes to win football’s most famous club fixture. “There’s not much difference between a Clasico with the first team and one with the lower categories,” he said. “You have to go at 200% to win it.”

“We have to be very focused and mentally prepared for this match. In the end, a Clasico is always very intense,” the number 6 added.

Gavi wants a 100 point season from Barcelona

Ahead of the big match, Gavi sees the team “training very well, mentally prepared and focused”, which he knows is “very important for us and for the fans”.

Above all, however, he wants Hansi Flick‘s outfit to become just the third in La Liga history to hit an impressive milestone.

“We are having quite a season. We have to win this Clasico and the remaining games to reach 100 points, which would be something historic,” he noted.

With Barca on 88 points, that does indeed come by winning everything across the remaining four fixtures. As for the Clasico itself, Gavi is certain to start alongside Pedri, as a pivot or on the left wing.

Since returning from injury, he’s proven himself as Flick’s most trusted midfield disciple capable of playing any midfield position. Furthermore, he’s making a strong shout to be included in Luis de la Fuente’s Spain World Cup squad.
