Pedri Training Plan Explained as Barcelona Stay Calm
Barcelona have explained why Pedri has not trained with the rest of Hansi Flick’s squad since reporting back from the World Cup break on Wednesday. Club sources say the Pedri training programme this week is a deliberate, individual one built around gym work, and that there is no medical concern surrounding the 23-year-old, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Flick has his full first-team group together again after the last of the Spain internationals returned in midweek, with only incomings and outgoings — among them the agreed €50m sale of Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain — left to settle. Pedri, a World Cup winner this summer, had shared images of himself working alone on 10 August before rejoining the group.
Keeping him out of collective sessions is described as strictly a matter of physical conditioning. He was advised to start in the gym and build his load gradually, and he is due to run on the pitch on Saturday.
What the Pedri training plan means for Basel and Elche
Barça Universal, relaying the same reporting, does not expect the midfielder to feature in this weekend’s friendly against Basel, and his involvement in Wednesday’s Joan Gamper Trophy against Al Ahly is uncertain too. With no fitness worry attached, he is expected to be available for the Blaugrana’s LaLiga opener against Elche on 23 August.
It has been a noisy week around the Barça medical room — Frenkie de Jong spent Friday hitting back at reports about his own injury — so a quiet, phased build-up is exactly what the Catalans want here. Saturday’s run-out on the grass is the next box ticked.
