Barcelona Cooling Anthony Gordon Pursuit for Now

Despite recent links between Barcelona and Anthony Gordon, the Catalan club are currently not actively pursuing a move for the Newcastle United winger.

According to Fabrizio Romano, while Gordon’s profile has been appreciated internally and discussed in previous scouting meetings. But there’s no ongoing operation or active negotiation underway at this moment.

The update clarifies Barcelona’s current stance amid growing speculation surrounding their search for attacking reinforcements.

A Profile That Was Appreciated Internally

Gordon had emerged as one of several winger profiles being assessed by Barcelona in recent months. The English international is valued for his intensity, directness, work rate, and tactical versatility. Those are qualities that align well with Hansi Flick’s demands of wide players.

His ability to contribute both offensively and defensively made him an attractive profile during the club’s internal market analysis.

However, appreciation does not necessarily translate into an active transfer pursuit, particularly given the complexity of the operation.

Financial Reality a Major Factor

One of the key obstacles surrounding any potential move for Gordon has always been the financial side of the deal. Newcastle are believed to value the player extremely highly, with figures previously reported in the region of €80m-€90m.

For Barcelona, committing to such an operation under current Financial Fair Play restrictions would be highly difficult, especially while the club continues to prioritise balance between transfer fees, salaries, and long-term squad planning.

As a result, the club’s focus has shifted toward other options considered more feasible within the current market conditions.

Barça Continue Exploring the Winger Market

Barcelona remain active in their search for attacking reinforcements, particularly on the wings, but the club is maintaining flexibility rather than accelerating toward one specific target.

Multiple profiles continue to be evaluated internally as Barça assess different tactical fits, age profiles, and financial structures before making definitive decisions.

At present, Gordon is no longer among the operations being actively worked on.

Situation Could Still Change

As with many transfer situations, circumstances can evolve quickly during the summer market. Barcelona’s stance today does not necessarily eliminate future interest, especially if market conditions shift.

For now, however, the situation is clear: Anthony Gordon remains a player appreciated by Barcelona – but not one the club is currently moving for.
