  • Fermín Update: The midfielder did not train with the group following his facial injury vs Atlético Madrid.
  • Incident Context: He suffered a heavy blow to the face after a collision with Juan Musso’s boot.
  • Bernal Status: Marc Bernal also missed training as he continues his recovery process.

Barcelona’s latest training session saw two notable absentees, with both Fermín López and Marc Bernal not involved as the team continues preparations for upcoming fixtures.

Fermín’s absence comes just days after a brutal incident in the Champions League clash against Atlético Madrid. He was struck in the face by goalkeeper Juan Musso’s boot during an aerial challenge. The impact left the midfielder bleeding heavily, and requiring immediate medical attention on the pitch.

Despite showing resilience and continuing in the match at the time, the after-effects of the collision have now impacted his availability in training. The club is opting to manage his condition carefully. Reports indicate he didn’t take part in group training as he continues recovery work.

Fermín Recovering for Barcelona After Musso Collision

The incident involving Musso has become one of the most talked-about moments from the 4-3 aggregate loss in Champions League quarterfinals. As Fermín attacked the ball inside the box, the Atlético goalkeeper’s outstretched boot made direct contact with his face.

The accidental but dangerous collision that sparked major controversy.

Although he was able to continue briefly, such impacts often require precautionary recovery periods, especially given the facial nature of the injury. Barcelona’s medical staff are now prioritising his recovery, with optimism that he could return soon depending on progress.

Bernal Still in Recovery Phase for Barcelona

Alongside Fermín, Marc Bernal was also not involved in today’s session. The young midfielder is still in the process of recovering. The club is taking a cautious approach to his workload and reintegration.

Bernal has been an important figure when available. But Barcelona are keen to avoid any setbacks, especially given his recent injury history.

Squad Management Ahead of Key Fixtures

With multiple key fixtures approaching, Barcelona are carefully managing player fitness across the squad. The absence of both Fermín and Bernal from training highlights the club’s cautious approach, ensuring players return only when fully ready.

While neither situation is currently viewed as long-term, their availability for upcoming matches will depend on how they progress in the coming days.

In their places, Dani Olmo and Frenkie de Jong are expected to start against Celta Vigo on Tuesday.
