Rodri Barcelona Bid Rejected by Manchester City as Talks Continue

The Rodri Barcelona transfer has hit its first hurdle. Manchester City have rejected the Blaugrana’s opening offer for the World Cup-winning midfielder, according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, with the Premier League champions holding out for a figure closer to their own valuation before they sanction their captain’s move to LaLiga.

Barcelona’s opening proposal — reported at around €45 million plus add-ons — was turned down on Friday morning. City are said to value the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner between €70 million and €80 million: Barca Blaugranes report a €70m asking price, while figures cited from The Athletic put it closer to €80m. Crucially, the clubs remain in direct contact rather than trading formal bids, and the Catalans are ready to improve their offer.

Rodri Barcelona talks far from over

What works in Barça’s favour is the player himself. Rodri has already agreed personal terms on a four-year deal and given the switch his blessing, having chosen Barcelona over Real Madrid. With his contract entering its final 12 months and no intention to renew, City face losing him for nothing next summer — a strong incentive to negotiate now.

Direct club to club talks for Rodri continue as Barcelona are prepared to improve their bid. €45m plus €5m add-ons opening proposal turned down this morning but FCB are still working on it. City are aware of player’s desire.

With Rodri due back from his post-World Cup break next week and City weighing a replacement, both sides have reason to move quickly. An improved Barcelona bid is expected in the coming days.
