Rodri Barcelona Move Gathers Pace as Personal Terms Agreed

The Rodri Barcelona transfer has shifted from a long shot to a live possibility. According to reports in Spain, the Manchester City midfielder and Spain captain has agreed personal terms with FC Barcelona and handed the Catalans the green light to open formal talks with the Premier League champions for the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.

Barça’s interest hardened after Frenkie de Jong’s World Cup knee injury left Hansi Flick short in midfield, and the German coach is reported to have phoned Rodri personally to sell him the sporting project. As Barça Blaugranes reported, the Blaugrana have settled the economic side with the player and are now finalising an opening bid understood to be around €50 million — short of the €60-70m City are believed to want.

What the Rodri Barcelona deal still needs

There is a clear health warning here: nothing is agreed with Manchester City, and no fee has been struck. Real Madrid, long seen as front-runners for the Madrid-born 30-year-old, have watched their advantage slip after what Spanish outlets describe as a change of heart. Barcelona, meanwhile, still have to bridge a sizeable valuation gap and manage their well-documented financial constraints before this becomes anything more than a strong possibility.

The next move is Barça’s, with a formal proposal expected to reach City imminently. With the summer window open until 31 August, expect this saga to run and run.
