Rodri Barcelona: Second Bid Lodged With Man City

The Rodri Barcelona pursuit has stepped up a gear. Barça have tabled a second offer to Manchester City for the reigning World Cup Golden Ball winner, worth a reported €60m (£51.4m), after an opening bid was knocked back earlier in the window.

The improved package, first flagged by Sports Mole, has not been rejected outright — but City are said to value the 30-year-old Spain international at €80m (£68.5m), leaving a gap to bridge. Barcelona’s initial approach, reported at €45m plus €10m in add-ons, fell well short.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Rodri has told City he only wants to move to the Spotify Camp Nou this summer, cooling earlier interest from Real Madrid.

“Barcelona are set to send their new bid for Rodri as the player has told Man City he ONLY wants Barça. Barça have zero doubts internally.”

Why the Rodri Barcelona deal makes sense

A holding midfielder of Rodri’s calibre would slot straight into Hansi Flick’s side, with Deco’s sporting department said to be working on the structure of a final fee. To make room, Barça may need to sell: Marc Casadó and Roony Bardghji have both been linked with exits, part of a wider reshaping under Flick.

City, wary of losing him for nothing when his contract expires in 2027, face a decision of their own — cash in now or risk waving Rodri off for free next summer. For now, the Catalans sound quietly confident the Rodri Barcelona saga ends the way they want.
