At a glance

  • FC Barcelona tasted heart-breaking defeat in the Champions League once more on Tuesday after falling to Atletico in the quarterfinals by a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.
  • Lamine Yamal gave his team hope of pulling off the remontada, but a 2-1 scoreline in the Metropolitano wasn’t enough to overcome a 2-0 loss at the Spotify Camp Nou in the first leg.
  • Taking to social media to address the setback, Lamine Yamal promised Culers glory.

FC Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal has taken to social media to address Tuesday’s heart-breaking 3-2 aggregate defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals.

With Barca trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Lamine gave them hope by scoring early in the second at the Metropolitano, ahead of Ferrran Torres levelling overall.

In the end, however, the Catalans couldn’t recover from an Ademola Lookman strike that determined the final overall score.

And once more, Culers must lament what could’ve been on the continent as the chase for a first UCL crown since 2015 continues.

Lamine Yamal has faced up to Barcelona’s defeat

Taking to social media on Wednesday morning, Lamine didn’t hide from the setback.

“We gave it our all, but it wasn’t enough,” he admitted. “This is only part of the path: to get to the top you have to climb, and we know that it will not be easy and they will not make it easy for us. But giving up is not an option.”

“We have plenty of reasons to get excited, and we are going to go after them with everything. Every mistake is a lesson, and rest assured that we will learn from each one,” Lamine promised.

“We are Barca, and we will be back where we should be. My parents taught me that a man’s word is always kept… and we will bring it to Barcelona,” he concluded, regarding the big-eared trophy.

Lamine was Barcelona’s standout performer once more

Aggressively pressing for his first goal, Lamine received an 9.8 team best rating from Whoscored for his display in the Metropolitano.

This consisted of his strike, three shots and nine dribbles while he was only dispossesed twice against a typically intense Atleti outfit that gave Pedri hell.

As he always does, the 18-year-old stood up when it counted and tried to make things happen for the Blaugrana.

Ultimately it couldn’t be, but one day it will for all of Barcelonismo.
