- FC Barcelona beat Osasuna 2-1 in El Sadar on Saturday.
- The win put them 14 points clear. It means that if Real Madrid fail to beat Espanyol on Sunday, Barca will become La Liga champions.
- Head coach Hansi Flick said the team will celebrate if the title is confirmed.
Hansi Flick promised that his team will celebrate a second consecutive La Liga title if it’s confirmed, after beating Osasuna 2-1 in El Sadar on Saturday.
Barca were beaten in the same ground in September 2024. This time round, though, late goals from Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres sealed a landmark win.
It meant that the Catalans are now 14 points of Real Madrid at the summit. If Los Blancos draw or lose against Espanyol, the Blaugrana will be confirmed champions. As soon as Monday afternoon, Culers and the team could head to Barcelona’s streets to party.
Asked if he’ll watch the game between Espanyol and Real Madrid, Flick confirmed he wouldn’t.
“I’m not aware of these things. The important thing was to win today, not what happens tomorrow. The important thing was to get the job done. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. If we win, we will celebrate. It doesn’t matter when you win, the important thing is to do the work,” he stressed.
Flick has been impressed with Barcelona over the last fortnight
The German said that the 2-0 win over Getafe “was already a good game”. Tonight then, “there was also a positive atmosphere”.
“The whole team was with a good attitude and a good level.” he stated. Flick felt that the second half was better than the goalless first. And he explained that Gavi was hooked because of his yellow card.
“With Rashford we were looking for speed,” Flick added, in reference to introducing the Englishman. As the Manchester United loanee gave an excellent cross for Robert Lewandowski to head home, this proved an inspired choice.
Despite closing in on their fifth domestic trophy in two years since Flick took over in the summer of 2024, he hinted at work to be done. “They are a young team with potential,” he said. Yet hile this moment being the undisputed kings of Spain should be savoured, the fans and squad alike want the Champions League.
