FC Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia has told Mundo Deportivo that he wants to be “the best I can be at everything” while on international duty.
Enjoying his first senior team call up with Spain, new Spotify Camp Nou fan favourite Garcia was asked what his ceiling is.
“I think I still have a lot to improve, and I’m also very demanding of myself,” he revealed.
“I want to be the best I can be at everything. I’m young, I’ve got I have many things to live. I still have to make many mistakes, I have to learn many things.
“I focus on that, on analysing what I can improve every day and trying to be a better goalkeeper,” he added.
Is Joan Garcia already among the best goalkeepers in the world?
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente called him as much when revealing that Garcia had been chosen as one of four shotstoppers in his squad list for friendlies with Serbia and Egypt to close out the month.
Just focusing on La Liga, however, Garcia is already fulfilling his own demands of himself by being a leader in a number of vital metrics aged just 24.
His 12 clean sheets in 23 La Liga outings are unmatched, while he’s also conceded the fewest goals (17) at the same time it takes more than two hours (122 minutes) to put one past him which is also a Spanish top flight best as detailed by Transfermarkt.
This puts Garcia ahead of Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois (11 clean sheets, 24 goals conceded at one every 105 minutes) and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak (11 clean sheets, 25 goals conceded at one every 94 minutes).
That duo has been put in an exclusive group of goalkeepers considered the best on the planet for a decade or more now, and at this rate it won’t be long until Garcia joins them in public opinion.
Other impressive stats include 78.8% save success and 89.6% passing accuracy according to FutMob. But as Garcia confessed himself, there is still room for improvement.
As already documented by ReadBarcelona, Garcia is yet to keep a clean slate in the Champions League on the brink of Hansi Flick’s going into a quarterfinal double-header with Oblak’s Atleti in April.
In Anoeta, he was also erratic and reckless coming off his line which led to an early 2026, 3-2 loss to Real Sociedad.
All in all, though, there have been huge signs of promise in Garcia’s maiden Blaugrana campaign since crossing the city divide from Espanyol last summer.
