Is This Dani Olmo’s Best Season At Barcelona?

At a glance

  • Dani Olmo is enjoying his strongest campaign in terms of appearances.
  • With 2025/2026 still yet to draw to a close, he’s played 42 games with FC Barcelona which is already more than the previous campaign (39).
  • His G/A stats (8 goals and 9 assists) don’t quite yet match up however (12 goals 7 assists).

Dani Olmo is enjoying his best season in Blaugrana, are at least that’s what some aspects of his game say.

Joining FC Barcelona from RB Leipzig as part of a €60 million deal, the Terrassa native finally came home in 2024.

Poached from the Espanyol academy to join La Masia, he made the brave choice to head to Croatia as 16-year-old to finish his development. Going through Dinamo Zagreb and the Bundesliga, Olmo took the long road back.

A European champions joins Barcelona

Olmo’s standout performances during Spain’s successful Euro 2024 campaign were the final push to convince President Joan Laporta to get his chequebook out.

Anyone could see how well Olmo linked up with future teammates Pedri and Lamine Yamal in La Roja colours. Yet muscle injuries hampered the 26-year-old in his maiden term back home in Catalonia, and left Barca feeling shortchanged.

In 2025/2026, though, Olmo is taking a step forward. He’s already played 42 games as Barca close in on the La Liga title, which is three more than last season.

Up to date, his eight goals and 9 assists fall short when compared to 12 goals and 7 assists in 2024/2026. Yet some of those strikes have been “clutch” goals such as that away at Espanyol in January and against Atletico Madrid in December. Heading into May, they both contribute to Barca’s comfortable nine point lead in the Spanish top flight.

SPORT tips Olmo as “the solution to the problems of the midfield”. And there are certainly few players in the elite with a futsal-esque knack of operating in tight spaces as Olmo – Spain’s undisputed number 10.

But we need to see him replicate European glory for club and not just country, which is the eternal challenge for this talented group of Blaugrana stars.
