  • Hansi Flick’s FC Barcelona contract finishes on June 30, 2027.
  • At a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Celta Vigo, he suggested he’ll stay beyond that date.
  • Flick is expected to sign an extension until mid-2028.

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has given a huge indicator he’ll stay at the club.

“I want the Champions League and to be here when the stadium is finished,” he stated on Tuesday afternoon.

Flick joined the Catalans in the summer of 2024. After a maiden domestic treble-winning campaign, he then agreed to extend his deal to June 30, 2027.

President Joan Laporta’s March re-election brought with it reports that Flick will again sign on the dotted line until that date in 2028.

The German has thus far been tight-lipped on whether he’ll do that. Ahead of Celta Vigo, however, he couldn’t have been clearer on it becoming a reality.

“I want the Champions League and to be here when the stadium is finished,” Flick said.

“Barcelona is the best stage of my coaching career. It will 100% be the last as well. My plan is to renew with Barca,” he added.

Amid the Blaugrana falling in the semifinals last term and quarterfinals this, the continental success Flick enjoyed at Bayern Munich is still lacking.

As for the Camp Nou, its 105,000 seats are due to be completed in April 2027 according to Mundo Deportivo, with the roof following shortly after ahead of a full inauguration in 2027/2028.

What we know about Flick’s Barcelona renovation

Ever the diplomat, Flick kept in character by saying: “Yes, I would like to renew my contract. But it is not the time to talk about this because we have important weeks,” when asked about the topic directly in the Joan Gamper CT press room.

As Reshad Rahman reported for ReadBarcelona in recent days, there’s already a verbal agreement between both parties.

Communicating as much in his comments on Tuesday, though, Flick’d rather wait until the end of the season before formally signing anything.

Flick’s reasoning for this is simple. He wants Laporta and the board to be fully convinced by his sporting project moving forward. Furthermore, despite Barca enjoying a nine-point cushion in La Liga, retaining the Spanish top flight title still isn’t guaranteed yet.

Yet as explained, that could happen on the perfect evening when hosting Real Madrid in the Spotify Camp Nou for El Clasico.
