  • Lamine Yamal suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg when scoring the winning penalty against Celta Vigo on Monday.
  • FC Barcelona confirmed the knock, which has ended his 2025/2026 season.
  • But Lamine is still expected to make the World Cup for Spain.

FC Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal has broken his silence on social media after being ruled out for the rest of the season.

As confirmed by the club on Thursday afternoon, Sant Jordi day in Catalonia, Lamine injured the hamstring in his left leg when scoring the winning penalty in a 1-0 La Liga victory over Celta Vigo last night.

He’s been ruled out of the rest of the season, and said on social media that “this injury leaves me off the pitch at the moment I wanted to be on it the most – and it hurts more than I can explain”.

“It hurts not to be able to fight with my teammates, to not to be able to help when the team needs me. But I believe in them and I know that they are going to give their soul in every game. I will be there, even if it is from the outside, supporting, encouraging and pushing as one more.

“This isn’t the end, it is just a pause. I will come back stronger, with more desire than ever, and next season will be better. Thank you for the messages and Visca el Barça,” Lamine concluded.

Lamine Yamal’s FC Barcelona season is finished – but he can still make the World Cup

After the first reports of a hamstring tear broke on Wednesday evening following Lamine’s pre-half time exit from the Celta match, it was already expected he’d miss what remains of Barca’s 2025/2026 campaign.

Lamine will therefore sit out May 10’s league deciding El Clasico against Real Madrid. But he leaves the Blaugrana in a strong position and nine points clear at the summit.

As things stand, Lamine’s participation in the 2026 World Cup isn’t in jeopardy. He’s on Luis de la Fuente’s preliminary squad list according to Mundo Deportivo. But it remains to be seen how his recovery progresses heading into the North America-held tournament.

What now for Barcelona in light of Lamine Yamal injury

With Lamine sidelined, this paves the way for Roony Bardghji to step up in his place on the right wing. The Swede came on for the number 10 against Celta, and supplied an assist for a Ferran Torres goal ruled out by VAR. Simultaneously, a returning Raphinha and Ferran can also fill in when it comes to that area of the pitch.
