At a glance

  • FC Barcelona are pushing for a second loan term for Marcus Rashford according to SKY Germany’s Florian Plettenburg.
  • The Englishman’s current temporary arrangement expires on June 30.
  • As things stand, Rashford will return to parent club Manchester United after said date if another arrangement isn’t hashed out.

FC Barcelona are pushing for a second loan for Marcus Rashford according to SKY Germany’s Florian Plettenburg.

Plettenburg explained that talks with his parent club Manchester United are ongoing. Above all, Barca don’t want to trigger a €30 million option to buy the 28-year-old outright.

In an ideal world, Barca would be able to secure Rashford‘s services for the 2026/2027 season but also negotiate a lower buy option.

Rashford should stay according to Plettenburg, and this development has been approved by Hansi Flick.

Barcelona can save by not buying Rashford

This narrative still fits with what Reshad Rahman reported for ReadBarcelona last week. In that sporting director Deco would prefer to save the €30 million it would take to purchase Rashford by spending up to €60 million on another winger.

Keeping Rashford on loan doesn’t mean this still can’t happen. Injuries to Raphinha and Lamine Yamal have proven that you can never have too many options out wide. Many wingers are capable of operating on either flank too, such as the Brazilian himself.

Rashford had a roaring start to life in Catalonia at the start of 2025/2026. While it has been felt that his form has dipped since the start of the year, and that he hasn’t taken advantage of opportunities such as Raphinha’s absence, he’s still hit the back of the net in important moments.

That’s especially true of Barca’s plight in La Liga, where they lead by 11 points are closing in on a third title in four years. Rashford missed a number of chances in the Blaugrana’s 2-0 Champions League quarterfinal first leg defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Yet in the league, he equalised in a 2-1 win over the same opposition in the Metropolitano and on Saturday doubled his side’s win as part of a 2-0 victory that was a first in the Coliseum since September 2019.

Overall, he boasts 13 goals and 13 assists in all competitions. After a full term of learning Flick’s system and becoming familiar with its demands, though, Rashford could kick on further with a confidence-boosting World Cup and positive preseason.
