- FC Barcelona beat Getafe in the Coliseum for the first time since September 2019 on Saturday.
- The 2-0 victory sent Hansi Flick’s men 11 points clear at the La Liga summit.
- Fermin Lopez netted the opener, and Rashford doubled the visitors’ lead in the second half.
Fermin Lopez praised Pedri for a “crazy pass” he gave the Andalusian to open FC Barcelona’s account against Getafe on Saturday.
The Blaugrana hadn’t beaten the home side in the Coliseum since 2019, and had to do so without injured forwards Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
Hansi Flick’s widemen stepped up, however, with a Fermin deployed on the left wing and Marcus Rashford coming up with goals in a 2-0 win that put Barca 11 points clear at the summit.
Speaking to Movistar, Fermin complimented Getafe’s defending and noted that after an excellent Pau Cubarsi recovery around the halfway line, “Pedri laid a crazy pass on me, and I was able to score a goal.”
In typical Pedri fashion, the pass in question was a genius through ball which cut two Getafe lines and managed to meet Fermin perfectly as he ran into the box.
Fermin dedicated his goal to Lamine Yamal
Holding up the 304, as Lamine does to honour the post code in the Mataro neighbourhood he grew up in, Fermin dedicated his goal to the injured teenager ruled out for the rest of the season.
“From here I send him a hug. He’s very important for us, it’s a shame that he cannot play, but the important thing is that he recovers well and is ready for the World Cup,” Fermin said.
On whether the league is “sentenced” as they say in Spain given Barca’s 11 point lead over Real Madrid, Fermin said: “We know we have a big advantage, but there are still games to go.
“We shouldn’t relax. I know it’s a cliché, but it’s the truth. We’ll try to follow this path until we’re champions.”
With a striker’s run and finish, Fermin enjoyed a strong all-round performance through his goal, three dribbles, 87% passing accuracy and three tackles according to Whoscored?.
Rashford put forward his case with an impressive goal of his own. But it’s probably Fermin that starts on the left against Osasuna next week while Raphinha continues recovery from his own hamstring knock.
Then it’s an open casting call for El Clasico on May 10, which should decide the La Liga title.
