FC Barcelona is aware of their defensive issues over the course of this season, in light of Inigo Martinez’s departure to Al Nassr last year.
With this in mind, they’re already clear about the position they need to strengthen in the upcoming transfer window, as well as the player, who is said to be Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni.
€50M Not Enough To Lure Bastoni Away From The Italian Capital
Despite contrary rumors from Italy over the last 2 weeks, Inter have no intentions of selling Bastoni for €50m.
According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona are still unaware of how much Inter are asking for the defender this summer, but it will take a lot more than the reported figures for the Italians to consider a sale.
Inter believe that if they sell Bastoni, it must be for a ‘club-record fee for a defender’ in their history, taking into account the player’s age and long-term potential.
Deco, in particular, is pushing for this move, having visited Milan multiple times over the past couple of months to begin laying the groundwork for a potential deal.
Bastoni, Open To An FC Barcelona Move
Despite no club-to-club negotiations taken place yet, Barça are already in discussions with Bastoni’s agents regarding the player’s potential salary and contractual terms. The defender is also open to the idea of joining the Catalan club this summer, with Mundo Deportivo reporting his excitement at the possibility of joining Hansi Flick’s squad next season.
It’s also worth noting that Bastoni faced Barça last season in the Champions League semi-finals, coming out on top after a dramatic late victory at San Siro in the second leg.
The defender delivered a standout performance that will remain memorable, although he’s currently being villainised in Italy for his sending off during a World Cup playoff final loss on penalties to Bosnia.
