Robbie Ure Praises Raphinha After Sevilla’s Defeat to Barcelona

Robbie Ure Admits Barcelona Wore Sevilla Down

Robbie Ure played all 90 minutes for Sevilla in their 3-1 defeat to FC Barcelona at the weekend. The Robbie Ure Raphinha Barcelona talking points began as soon as the final whistle went, with the young forward admitting Barcelona wore his side down as the game went on, despite a promising start.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Sport after the game, Ure reflected honestly on facing Hansi Flick’s side.

“The first half, we were good,” Ure said, before explaining how the momentum shifted. He singled out Raphinha as the biggest problem Sevilla faced: “But as the game goes on, they wear you down. Raphinha at the moment. I mean…” The remark summed up how hard he found it to contain the Barcelona winger once fatigue set in. His words echo opposition manager assessments of Barcelona’s level made by rival coaches this season.

Despite the result, Ure took plenty from the occasion. “I really enjoyed it,” he said. “But against these players, you give them one chance and most of the time it’s a goal. For me, it was a really good experience. I’m only going to get better as a result of it.”

Sevilla signed Ure from Swedish club IK Sirius after a scoring run that few strikers anywhere could match this year. Between April and July, he scored 15 goals in 14 games for the club, including four in a single match against Mjallby.

“I was scoring near enough every game, so that was probably the happiest I’ve been,” Ure said. “Every week I was scoring and we were top of the league. I was improving and that interest in me was getting bigger and bigger.”

He pointed to the Mjallby game as a turning point. “The day I scored the four goals, it was my first hat-trick. I felt like every time I shot it was going to be a goal. I’ve not had a feeling like that before in football. It was pretty special,” he said.

Squad Impact & Tactical Context

A full 90 minutes against Barcelona shows the trust Sevilla already place in Ure within their forward line. His path there ran through Rangers, Anderlecht and Sweden before Spain.

Ure left Rangers after two senior substitute appearances, against St Mirren in November 2022 and Hibernian in May 2023. Asked if the decision to leave had been hard, he said: “Yeah, it was. All I’d ever known was Rangers. Going in every single day since I was probably eight years old but it was something that I felt I had to do.”

He was candid about his standing at Ibrox at the time. “I felt like I wasn’t good enough to play for Rangers at the time, which is normal for many 18-year-olds. It was nothing that affected my confidence. I would have loved to have stayed but I knew myself that I wasn’t going to play, which I accepted.”

Anderlecht gave him the fresh start he needed before Sirius and now Sevilla. “At a club like Rangers, it’s difficult for any 18-year-old to play. I needed a change of scenery and a fresh start, somewhere that I could go to play at a level that would be good enough for me at the time. Anderlecht provided that.”

The Robbie Ure Raphinha Barcelona talking points arrive during an international window in which Sebastien Pocognoli’s Scotland squad is missing Lyndon Dykes, George Hirst, Che Adams, Lawrence Shankland and Ross Stewart. The latter three are out through injury. Ure’s focus stays on Sevilla, where regular football and matches of this calibre continue to sharpen him.

What Happens Next / Upcoming Timeline

Barcelona return to La Liga action looking to build on Barcelona’s strong domestic start this season. Sevilla, meanwhile, look to respond in their next league fixture.

Ure will hope to keep his place after another full 90 minutes against one of Europe’s leading sides. Scotland’s squad picture remains separate, with Pocognoli continuing to manage his options ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.
