FC Barcelona fans sold out the new Spotify Camp Nou for the first time in its young history on Wednesday, and formed a stunning mosaic before kick off as the women’s team known as Femini hosted Real Madrid in El Clasico.
With Pere Romeu’s side leading 6-2 going into the Champions League quarterfinal second leg, 62,000 fans allowed to fill the ground thanks to Phase 1C being greenlit held up Blaugrana plus traditional yellow and red senyera cards to form the pharase “El nostre cami“.
That means “our path” in Catalan in this context, and is a nod towards Femini’s route to a seventh consecutive final appearance.
Femini have featured in every decider since 2019, losing three and winning three with their last attempt a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in Lisbon.
This season’s final will be held in Oslo, and the Catalans look in good shape to once again have a chance of lifting the trophy there.
FC Barcelona’s women’s team make history once more
Though the stadium’s still incomplete state means that Femini could not come close to breaking the all-time women’s football attendance record, which it set in 2022 when 91,648 punters turned up to see a Champions League match against Wolfsburg, they’ve still made history.
This was the first time that a Barça outfit, male or female, had sold out the 62,000 seats made available by the completion of Phase 1C, with Hansi Flick‘s men unable to fill it for big fixtures such as the recent 7-2 Champions League last 16 second leg drubbing of Newcastle United.
As reported by SPORT, Flick was in attendance to support Femini, and will have been impressed by the exploits of serial Ballon d’or winner Alexia Putellas and Co.
