Barcelona have been dealt a fresh Micky van de Ven transfer blow, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly having no intention of selling the Netherlands defender this summer.
Van de Ven has been linked with Barcelona and Liverpool amid uncertainty around his long-term Tottenham future, but Spurs are said to see the 25-year-old as a key player for Roberto De Zerbi rather than a centre-back to cash in on during the current window.
According to a fresh update from Cartilage Free Captain, Tottenham have no intention of selling Van de Ven despite external interest and would only face a decision if a huge offer arrived.
Barcelona Centre-Back Search Hits A Firm Tottenham Wall
The stance matters for Barcelona because Van de Ven fits an obvious squad need. He is left-footed, quick across open grass and comfortable defending space, all traits that would appeal to Hansi Flick if Barcelona continue looking for a high-line centre-back.
Tottenham, though, have little sporting reason to encourage a deal. De Zerbi is reshaping Spurs after a difficult Premier League campaign, and Van de Ven’s pace gives him a defensive safety net that few available alternatives can match.
For Barcelona, the message is clear enough for now. Interest may remain, but prising Van de Ven out of Tottenham this summer looks far more difficult than simply identifying him as a target.
