At a glance
- Ronald Araujo does not consider himself transferable and has no intention of leaving Barcelona
- The Uruguayan has set himself three clear goals: to win La Liga, to perform well at the World Cup and to get back to his best.
- His contract at Barcelona is set to expire in 2031 and he perceives his reduced role this season as a hurdle to overcome.
Ronald Araujo has put an end to the speculation linking him with an FC Barcelona departure, at least on his behalf. The centre back will be staying put despite having had a difficult season. This comes despite him attracting interest from Liverpool and Inter Milan.
Araujo’s three goals
Mundo Deportivo reports that the Uruguayan does not see himself as transferable. He has set three objectives for the coming months:
- Win the La Liga title with Barcelona as soon as possible.
- Compete at the 2026 World Cup with Uruguay.
- Stay at Barcelona for a long time.
A difficult season but no regrets
Araujo still perceives himself as a significant part of the club and the dressing room. He views the coming months as a time of rebuild and considers himself a key figure in the future under Hansi Flick.
Barcelona might see him as expendable since his sale could secure the funds needed to sign Julian Alvarez and Alessandro Bastoni.
The 25-year-old Uruguay international has only started ten league games under Flick this season with both Eric Garca and Gerard Martin now placed ahead of him. The World Cup seems like a chance for him to reset both his trajectory at both club and international level.
Ronald Araujo spent two months on the sidelines towards the end of 2025 with mental health concerns. Since then, he has found himself operating as a right-back for much of the time. But he doesn’t see that as a problem. He doesn’t complain as he feels strongly about staying at the club.
