Lamine Yamal scored his first World Cup goal as Spain beat Saudi Arabia 4-0 in Atlanta on Sunday, giving Barcelona another major tournament milestone from their teenage forward.
The 18-year-old started for Spain and opened the scoring inside the first half, sliding in at the far post to turn home Mikel Oyarzabal’s cross. FC Barcelona confirmed the goal came at 18 years and 343 days, with the forward playing the opening 45 minutes of Luis de la Fuente’s victory, according to the club’s official update on Yamal’s World Cup breakthrough.
It was a sharp response after Spain’s goalless opening draw with Cape Verde, and it came with a heavy Barcelona flavour. Dani Olmo, Pedri and Pau Cubarsi also started as Spain took control of Group H.
Barcelona milestone arrives on World Cup stage
For Yamal, the goal adds the World Cup to a scoring list that already includes La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, the Champions League and the European Championship.
Barcelona also noted that the strike puts him among the top 10 youngest goalscorers in World Cup history. That matters because Yamal is no longer just carrying potential; he is delivering decisive moments while still being managed carefully after recent fitness concerns.
Spain’s final group match against Uruguay will now carry major interest for Barcelona supporters, with Yamal’s minutes likely to remain one of the key selection calls.
