Barcelona have reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign 2007-born Ecuadorian winger Josué Caicedo from LDU Quito, with the deal structured for Barca Atletic.
The move is described as an initial loan with a purchase option that could become mandatory, with the total package understood to be worth around €2.5million. The update, first pushed by Fabrizio Romano and carried in a fresh report by Barca Universal’s report on the Caicedo agreement, places the 18-year-old in line to join Barcelona’s reserve pathway rather than the senior squad immediately.
Barcelona Add Another South American Prospect
Caicedo is a left-sided attacker who has been on LDU Quito’s books and is viewed as another development signing for Barcelona’s academy structure. The important detail for supporters is the pathway: this is not framed as a first-team fix for Hansi Flick, but as a Barca Atletic addition with upside if the option clause is triggered.
For Barcelona, the attraction is obvious. A low initial outlay reduces risk, while the obligation mechanism protects the selling club if Caicedo progresses quickly. For the player, the move would put him inside one of Europe’s most scrutinised youth systems at a stage when game time, coaching detail and adaptation will matter more than the headline fee.
The deal still needs the usual formal steps before Barcelona can present him, but the reporting points to a clear agreement in place.
