Andreas Christensen has reportedly agreed a two-year contract extension with Barcelona, but the defender’s future is still not fully closed off. The Denmark international is out of contract this summer and is now ready to sign fresh terms running until 2028, according to a fresh Barca Blaugranes update.
The report says Christensen has accepted a pay cut to stay at the club, despite stronger financial offers from Saudi Arabia, the Premier League and the Bundesliga. Mundo Deportivo is cited as saying the agreement includes an option for either side to end the deal after the first year if the arrangement does not work.
Barcelona still face a Christensen decision
The key caveat is that renewal does not automatically equal certainty. Reporter Matteo Moretto is quoted in the same update as saying Christensen has renewed, but Barcelona still want him out and he can leave even with the new deal in place.
That makes this a significant squad-management moment rather than a simple retention story. Christensen, 30, has been a useful and versatile option for Barcelona, but his injury record remains part of the discussion after a season in which he started only three games.
For Hansi Flick and Deco, the extension appears to protect Barcelona’s position while keeping the summer market open. For Christensen, it gives contractual security without removing the possibility of a move if the right offer lands.
